It isn't the first time, and it won't be the last time. I was way off on David Wells.
I HATED the Wells signing…but not so much because I didn't think he
had anything left in the tank…more because I didn't want to have to
root for the guy. The example I bring up to my friends is Jim
Leyritz. I hated that guy, even when he was on the Sox.
Sure, I wanted him to do well when he played for the Sox, but I didn't
have to like him.
But you know what? I'm starting to not dislike Wells. Yes,
his performance over the last 5 starts has something to do with
it. Can he keep this up? If so, a 1-2 punch of Wells and
Clement is looking pretty good right now. Will Schilling come
back; and more importantly, will he be effective? And if so, will
moving a current starter to the bullpen help what has been the most
glaring weakness on this team?
Two things I've never really been worried about are the starting
pitching and the hitting. It will be interesting to see how Theo
and company address the bullpen issues.
